Joy Johnston
Joy is the Prime Minister’s Special Adviser for Faith, Communities and Civil Society. While Labour were in opposition, she directed ‘Faith in Labour’, supporting the Labour Party’s relationships with faith communities and civil society. She has also worked in philanthropy and been a volunteer and trustee for multiple charities. Joy previously spent 17 years in the civil service, mostly in the Home Office where she worked on a range of issues including child exploitation and community safety before leading the government’s refugee resettlement schemes. Her final government role was in the Civil Society and Youth Directorate, where she led the Tackling Loneliness and Volunteering Strategies as well as a surge team to work on the Homes for Ukraine programme.
