Barriers and Complex Needs Lead, Department for Work and Pensions

I began my civil service career in 2008 as an Administrative Officer in the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and have since held a range of Operational and Service Design roles within the Department.

My passion lies with supporting customers with barriers and complex needs, so I tend to gravitate towards these roles.

Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) are a process through which the Police, Probation and Prison Services work together with other agencies to assess and manage the risks posed by individuals convicted of serious violent, sexual and terrorism offences living in the community to protect the public. They were established by the Criminal Justice Act 2003 and are operated locally by 42 Strategic Management Boards across England and Wales.

I’m currently the DWP National MAPPA Lead as the DWP is a Duty to Co-Operate Agency.

This involves collaborative working with colleagues in other government departments at National and Local levels to ensure a streamlined approach to supporting and managing the risks posed by MAPPA-managed individuals. I’m also working on internal process improvements and supporting a network of specialist MAPPA roles to deliver on our legal obligations.
