David Daddow
Governor, HMP The Mount
My career in HMPPS has now spanned over 30 years, during this time I have served as an Operational Senior Leader in a broad range of prisons and HQ roles.
I am currently the Governing Governor for HMP The Mount, which is a Complex Category C prison in Hertfordshire. Prior to this appointment I Governed HMP & YOI Hollesley Bay for 4 years, which is a large Category D Open Prison in Suffolk.
Governing a prison is often challenging but equally rewarding. My position affords me autonomy to lead my team and prisoner community, with a focus on creating a positive culture. I pride myself on encouraging innovation and creativity as this can have the effect of lightening the load on what can be at times a heavy job for my teams. In April 2024 I was proud to receive a positive HMIP which recognised the progressive changes that I, my team and the community had made to improve the lived experience.
I am passionate about creating positive, rehabilitative environments in the prisons I govern. As part of my continuous professional development, I recently completed my MSt in applied Criminology, Penology and Management at the University of Cambridge. Completing this study has further developed my understanding and helped me to improve the effectiveness of the prisons I Govern.
